I am always, always finding new things in these books. I realize that the quote above is the moment Harry truly begins to understand Voldemort. That is why Voldemort is the way he is - he wants so badly to escape fear and pain and death that he made himself something less than human so that he wouldn’t have to deal with human truths. Harry reached that point himself, but despite his childish fears, ended up embracing death and, therefore, life in the end. By killing Sirius and attempting to destroy Harry, Voldemort was actually giving him yet another tool to structure his own demise.
